Waking Up
Wednesday, June 28 I felt refreshed for the first time since I found
out we were moving. When we first woke up it was already close to
10am so we were already “off-schedule” and very hungry. So we
decided to take it easy for the day. After we checked out of our room
and put everything back in the Uhaul, we headed backing into the
Hotel to eat a very nice Breakfast (compliments to our wonderful
winnings from the night before). We ate at TIWA a nice little
restaurant that had wonderful food. After we got our food a group of
gentlemen came in and it appeared that they were some kind of band. I
felt bad for not knowing who they where so I got on my handy dandy
iPhone and looked them up. Turns out we were eating Breakfast right
next to Cinderella the 80s Hair Band. I thought it was kind of cool.
After Breakfast Christopher decided to hit the slots one more time. At first he wasn't doing that well and then he found “his machine.” He go on this incredible hot streak and won an additional $150 which covered our Hotel expenses. I was also allowed to visit the Gift shop. I came out with two shirts, a magnate (of course), and a shot glass for Christopher.
Not "The Machine" but we liked it |

This day of
driving was full of absolutely nothing. And this is when I did most
of my writing for my blog, I kind of liked having the time to write
but I also wanted something more inspiring outside my window besides
the world of wide, flat, open nothingness.
I was told that
I specificity need to write down that at 15:44 we ran over our first
tumble weed. At the time we were 65 miles away from Roswell, NM. I am
not going to lie I was kind of excited to see were the craziness all
began.
Right before we
got to Roswell we saw an Antelope and decided to figure out the words
to the song “Home on the Range”. Needless to say I know the whole
song now.
Oh, give me a home
where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the
antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a
discouraging word
And the skies are not
cloudy all day.
Chorus
Home, home on the
range,
Where the deer and
the antelope play;
Where seldom is
heard a discouraging word
And the skies are
not cloudy all day.
Where the air is so
pure, the zephyrs so free,
The breezes so balmy
and light,
That I would not
exchange my home on the range
For all of the cities
so bright.
Chorus
The red man* was
pressed from this part of the West
He's likely no more to
return,
To the banks of Red
River where seldom if ever
Their flickering
camp-fires burn.
Chorus
How often at night when
the heavens are bright
With the light from the
glittering stars
Have I stood here
amazed and asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds
that of ours.
Chorus
Oh, I love these wild
prairies where I roam
The curlew I love to
hear scream,
And I love the white
rocks and the antelope flocks
That graze on the
mountain-tops green.
Chorus
Oh, give me a land
where the bright diamond sand
Flows leisurely down
the stream;
Where the graceful
white swan goes gliding along
Like a maid in a
heavenly dream.
Chorus
When we got to
Roswell we decided to have dinner. If you are ever in Roswell, NM,
never ever eat at the Applebee's. It was the worst service we have
ever experienced and it is hard to displease Christopher. After the
worst dinner ever we headed in to town to explore. Sadly the Roswell
museum was already closed, (that town shuts down really early) but we
were still able to walk in to a tourist trap store and buy me another
magnet, since that is all that really mattered to me. We were back on
the road quickly and heading for Texas.
Our planned
short day worked out amazingly. We stopped in Brownfield, Texas for
the night before 21:00 about 3 hours outside of San Angelo, Texas.
When we got settled I was able to take a nice relaxing bath and then
slowly drifted in to the best sleep I had the entire trip.
